The Zikr

The Zikr is a Malaysian nasyid group. In the 1990s, Al-Arqam through its Entertainment Unit (Syukbah Hiburan) established the group under the OVA Production (Audio Video Al-Arqam) label. They were the earliest nasyid group to use modern percussion instruments such as drum-machines. They were established as an alternative to teenagers who glorify western music at the time and at the same time provide Islamic entertainment that glorifies Allah. The group was active in the early 1990s and moved on for the next five years. They reassembled as Raihan after their break-up. Some of their songs were re-recorded under the new name.
