Blues band Chain was formed as "The Chain" in 1968 in Melbourne, Australia, where they've been the most influential blues/rock band. Phil Manning (guitar and vocals), bassist Barry Sullivan (later in Little River Band, died Oct. 27, 2003) and drummer Barry Harvey were a loud, brash trio. With the joining of Matt Taylor on vocals and harmonica in 1970 the band took on a tougher, bluesier edge. Today Dirk Dubois is on bass. Best known for the 1971 band composition Black and Blue, they had several chart entries and reached double gold status for Toward the Blues the same year, which still is on general release and probably the longest permanently available rock/blues album in Australia. The great (slide) guitarist Phil Manning pursued a solo career, and the band has made various comebacks. In the 90s it was known as "Matt Taylor's Chain". Chain still tour now and then.
