American composer, arranger, associated with the publisher Pure Music (12) and composers David Carroll & Shay Torrent. Co-founder of the label Mercury and record company Mercury Record Corporation in 1945, he joined United Artists Records in 1960 and purchased Musicor Records in 1964. The subject of his songs included Hawaii, Mexico, and the American South. Among other titles, Stone penned "Eating Goober Peas", "John Henry", "Land Of Beauty", "Hawaiian Sun", and "Honeysuckle Down South". Died on May 28th, 2006 in New York, NY. He may have inherited the credit of the song "Plain Gold Ring" written by Earl Burroughs at one point: see George Stone (9) ; Kitty White recorded her version for his label Mercury in 1956. He may also be the co-writer of "My Babe" originally recorded by The Gaylords for his label Mercury: see George Stone (18)
