Antonio Gagliano I (1764—c. 1835) was an Italian luthier and violin-maker from Naples, son of Nicola Gagliano (c. 1710–1787) and younger brother of Giuseppe Gagliano I. Lesser-known than other Gaglianos, specifically as an individual luthier, Antonio worked most extensively with Giuseppe. Over 100 surviving instruments, dated between the late 1770s and early 1800s, bear joint 'Joseph & Antonius Gagliano Fec. Anno 17## In Piatea dicſa Cerriglio' label. Even though most experts agree they are generally inferior to Giuseppe's earlier builds, J&A Gaglianos are still sought-after and actively traded on auctions. In the mid-2000s, the rarer instruments (violas and cellos) scored in the $75,000-92,000 range, and in Oct 2020, the most expensive violin went for over $171,000. Several violins, dated c.1830s, carry "collaborative" label Giuseppe, Giovanni, ed Antonio Gagliano.. and there are very few instruments attributed as Antonio's "solo." Despite the scarcity factor, these violins and cellos never surpassed the $72,600-95,200 range at current auctions.
