BOBBY SUMMERFIELD Composer – Producer – Mixer – Recording Engineer - Sound Designer. Bobby has 10 Day Time Emmy Nominations for (Music Composition in a Drama Series). He has had a very wide reaching career spanning some 27 years, including formal education in music composition and audio technology as a pro studio technician. Starting out as a DJ, he honed his engineering skills mixing live front of house sound before moving into the studio as an Producer / Mixer / Engineer / Writer. Since moving to Los Angeles, he has concentrated on television and film, for which he has now completed more than 5,600 professional commissions. As a very young boy, Bobby was obsessed with music, listening to a wide variety of styles from The Beatles, James Brown, Queen and Disco. English born, he grew up in South Africa and had a unique exposure to African & Ethnic music. As an avid audio electronics hobbyist, at age 14, he built a mobile DJ system and began DJ-ing parties for his friends. He soon became popular enough to earn a living DJ-ing and became a full time professional DJ. He was soon offered a chance to join the top rock band at the time, Ballyhoo, as band DJ & sound engineer. At 19, in 1980, He sang lead vocals with Ballyhoo on a novelty single by "Uncle Bobby and the Naughty Boys", released on TruTone-Polydor records. While touring for 4 years, he started formal studies of audio engineering, music and electronics and received a final diploma. Over the next 3 years Bobby became a top national DJ and record producer and a VJ and co-presenter of a national music video TV show, “Fast Forward”. By the age of 24 Bobby had worked with most of the top bands to come out of South Africa and got into the Billboard 100. In 1986 he worked on 19 of the top 25 hits. At this time he was hired as a staff writer-producer by Hilton Rosenthal for Minc records, who were responsible for putting together Paul Simon’s multi-platinum hit album Graceland. On the heels of Graceland’s success, Minc transferred Bobby to Los Angeles to head up studio design and be staff writer producer for newly formed Rhythm Safari Records. In LA, he continued DJ-ing and his studies and graduated from the acclaimed Dick Grove School of music. Bobby went on to co-produce, co-write, mix and engineer a wide range of hit artists for Rhythm Safari Records, including: Foreigner, Carole King, Johnny Clegg & Savuka, Harry Belafonte, Christopher Cross and Ton Loc. Bobby was also a sound designer and an integral part supplying, producing & recording the major part of the African sound samples for Spectrasonics' hit CD "Heart Of Africa". Eventually as prominent part of the professional LA music scene, Bobby contributed by lecturing for the prestigious UCLA’s Music & Art extensions program. Summerfield Music, Inc. In 1993, Bobby started his own music company, Summerfield Music, Inc. based in LA, and to date Summerfield Music has been part of many high profile and successful projects, with a wide range of artists and media clients from all around the world, including some of the world’s biggest multi-platinum recording artists and network TV and film companies. Bobby now works with a team of talented writers & producers around the world. In 2012, Summerfield Music re-entered the music sample library development world, with it's first collaborative release with AudioBro “LA Drama Drums” Aardvark Music Library In 2020, during the covid Pandemic, Bobby created & launched Aardvark Music Library, starting with 52 CDs of Music for TV, Film, Documentaries, Underscores and Advertising.
