Duca Guglielmo Gonzaga

Guglielmo Gonzaga (24 Apr 1538—14 Aug 1587) was a Duke of Mantua (from 1550 to 1587) and Montferrat (1574–'87), an avid music lover. Guglielmo commissioned renowned composers of the time, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina and Giaches De Wert, to develop the original repertoire for a newly-erected massive cathedral in his city Mantua, revealing fairly advanced musical knowledge in his extensive correspondence with Palestrina.
