Babalu (6)

Babalu (stage name) started as a dancer learned fire dancing and acrobatics in many local nightclubs, including the infamous “The Cat & Fiddle” a hot spot in Nassau (in the 50s and 60s), owned by musician Freddie Munnings, Sr. During this time also got his first lessons in drumming. Taught by Raymond Hanna (the original Babalu), he learned to play bongo drums and became Rosie’s drummer. Richard “Sweet Richard” Dean took Babalu along with him to perform in the United States where to form his own band Babaul and His Headhunters was formed. Babalu eventually settled in Miami, FL, where he opened a nightclub, “Babalu’s Banana Boat”.
