Ivar Widéen

Swedish organist and composer, born March 21, 1871 in Jönköping, Sweden, died March 16, 1951 in Lidköping, Sweden. He received his first teaching of piano and harmony from his father, who was an organist and elementary school teacher, and then from his grandfather, who was educated at the then King. The Academy of Music's teaching staff in Stockholm. Widéen studied at Kungl. The Conservatory of Music 1888−91 and graduated in organ playing, church singing and as a music teacher. He also studied the counterpoint of Joseph Dente 1890–1892. The time in Stockholm became important for Widéen, who came in contact with music by Richard Wagner, Edvard Grieg and August Söderman. Their music became a great source of inspiration for him. Of performing musicians, the organist Emil Sjögren in St. John's Church was an important role model.
