South African SHANA, an acronym for "Simply Hot And Naturally African", is a band that formed in 1997 when the three members met at the Natal Technikon. Now based in Gauteng, the band comprises DJ Nkosinathi Maphumulo from Umlazi, Mnqobi Mdabe (a voice lecturer at a college from Ntuzuma Township), and Thandukwazi Sikhosana (a piano lecturer from Bruntville Township in Mooi River). Producing and composing their own music, they have also co-produced SAMA award-winning material for other artists such as DJ's @ Work and the late Lebo Mathosa.
