Andrés Berger-Kiss was born in en Szombathely, Hungary en 1927. His parents were actors in the theater there. They fled just before the Holocaust, in which he lost fourteen members of his father’s family. They arrived in Medellín, Colombia in 1931, when he was five years old. Berger-Kiss studied in the high school of Universidad de Antioquia in Medellín, the place he always considered his second homeland. He obtained PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Missouri. He worked as a clinical psychologist, and taught psychology in several universities. Then, Berger-Kiss became psychologist-in-chief and Director of Education about Mental Health for the state of Oregon. More than two decades ago, he decided to dedicate his time exclusively to his writing. Andrés Berger-Kiss has written more than thirty works of fiction and poetry. His short-story “The Sharpener” won a national prize and has been included in many anthologies. His poetry has appeared in magazines throughout the United States and Colombia and has been published in bilingual collections. He gave readings of his poetry in Hungry, Colombia, Spain, Mexico, Germany, Canada and the United States. He was the featured speaker at the Third International Congress of Hispanic poetry at the University of Pécs in Hungary. Andrés Berger-Kiss died in 2016.
