Goeie Jongens was initially created to give a one-time concert to celebrate 20 years of Genk hip hop, but it has involved into a loose collective and platform for connecting, supporting and launching both old and new hip hop artist from Limburg. Goeie Jongens has no fixed lineup, there are always artists who can join in and contribute. Current known members of Goeie Jongens are Don Luca, Tiewai, Chaz, Djalu, Rian Snoeks, Zio Io, PTR, Aria, Ricca, K-Nabio, Cinus, Lano, Nupstr, Explore, Sinister, Pepe Sanchez, Polyte, and Arnaud Wolters (management). Everything started in early 2019 when Arnaud Wolters working at the youth service for the city of Genk finds out that he still has a slot free at Genk On Stage. He wanted to do something with hip hop, and mainly the celebration of 20 years of Genk hip hop. However there was no collective to connected different generations of hip hop artist from Genk. The first time many of the acts were on the same stage together was at the release party of Chaz & Djalu's album Eclipse at Youth House PAND. After the release party Arnaud decided to make that connection for the artist that Genk has had and has in the hip hop field, and so he invited everyone for 'Hip hop & Vlaai', a gathering on Sunday. They noticed that there was a lot of drive to build something beautiful together, and so Arnaud made the call, and asked them to perform on Genk On Stage. After their show at Genk On Stage, they knew immediately that it would become a long term project. And thus Goeie Jongens was born. Shortly after forming, they got asked to perform on the stage of Pukkelpop, one of the major music festivals in Belgium. That’s also the place where the title of their first album found its origin. While they were waiting in the backstage area, the stage manager asked if we had our phones on vliegtuigmodus (Dutch for airplane mode). Vliegtuigmodus kept going around in the group, and so the presenter of the stage had picked up on that and thought it would be fun to use as an introduction. And with success, because they choose it as the title, and album intro for their first album.
