Jew's harp player and fiddle player, active from the 1960s to the 2010s. Born in Leicester. Died in 2013 at the age of 74. Wright went to Wolverhampton College of Art and had a brief career in teaching before becoming a professional musician. Working with many different musicians, John recorded award-winning albums ranging from Irish traditional music and the compositions of John Playford to medieval interpretations. Recorded for Topic and left to form a musical partnership with his wife, Catherine Perrier. Performing with Perrier, he travelled throughout Europe and North America. They toured extensively in France; documenting, collecting and recording songs and music from traditional sources. Both played an important role in the revival of traditional French folk music, song and dance. Ever-present at music festivals and playing French traditional music. Brother of Michael Wright (11), David Wright (24) and Lucy Wright.
