American sound engineer and producer. Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, on May 31, 1920; died in Reading, Pennsylvania on September 22, 2012. He was part of the team at Columbia Records that introduced the long-playing vinyl record in 1948 before going on to produce albums with the New York Philharmonic, Glenn Gould, Isaac Stern and many other classical musicians. He worked at Columbia until 1961, and then at MGM Records, RCA Red Seal, the publisher G. Schirmer and the Rochester Philharmonic, where he was executive manager in the 1970s. From 1986 until his retirement in 1993, he worked for Sony, Columbia's corporate successor, as a producer, mainly transferring old albums to CD.
