Glen Garrett is proficient on all of the saxophones, flutes and clarinets and is equally comfortable in the jazz, pop, or classical idioms. He is also a professor at California State University, Northridge, where he teaches the History of Jazz and the History of Rock. Glen Garrett has been an active participant in the Los Angeles studio and recording scene since the mid 1970's. He is a former member of the Les Brown Orchestra, the Gerald Wilson Orchestra, the Buddy Rich Band and Ed Shaunghnessy’s big band. He has performed locally with many of L.A.’s best ensembles, including Bill Holman, Louis Bellson, Oscar Castro-Neves, Buddy Childers and Bruce Lofgren, just to name a few. He is a graduate of the University of Utah’s Jazz Studies department and has a Masters degree in woodwind performance from California State University, Northridge. He has recorded on soundtracks for well over 100 major motion pictures and television dramas and has worked for some of L.A.’s best composers and conductors, including Johnny Mandel, Elmer Bernstein, Hans Zimmer, David Newman, Danny Elfman, Lionel Newman, Mike Post, Miles Goodman and many more. He has also worked on records and CDs for Neil Diamond, Blood, Sweat and Tears, Toni Tenielle, Kenny Rankin, Michael Feinstein, Harry Connick, Jr., Michael Bolton and a host of others. His saxophone playing was featured on the NBC news theme for several years and his saxophone played the theme music to many television series such as The White Shadow and Hooperman. His saxophone solos can be heard prominently in the motion pictures He Said, She Said, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Nightmare Before Christmas, Big Top Pee Wee, Flubber, and Boys on the Side, among others.
