Ceevox
Настоящее имя: Ceevox
Об исполнителе:
With several decades of hit records to her credit, Ceevox has kicked off another exciting chapter of her house music journey, after her recovery from a major health scare inspired her to venture further into the world of creating original productions. Combining uplifting lyrics and assertive vocals with contemporary Latin and Afro house grooves, Ceevox’s material is firmly rooted in the traditions of the dance music underground, but it took some time for her to discover that world. Growing up in New Jersey, Ceevox wanted to sing and make music early on; she played piano, organ and guitar, and performed in school plays and glee club. She grew up listening to rock, oldies, Latin and jazz, originally envisioning herself fronting a band in the mold of Pat Benatar or Stevie Nicks. It wasn’t until she moved to Miami that Ceevox immersed herself in house music and the city’s underground scene in the early 1990s. Fate soon intervened when she was overheard singing while working at one of Miami Beach’s biggest record stores, and she was approached to make a record. Ceevox’s track with Ian Appell, “That Sound” by e-n featuring Ceevox, was released in 1996 and reached the top five on the Billboard Hot Club Songs chart, and her profile soared to new heights thanks to her powerhouse reworking of Gladys Knight & the Pips’ “I’ve Got To Use My Imagination,'' titled simply “My Imagination.” Released on Grammy winner Peter Rauhofer’s Star 69 Records, it hit number three on the Billboard Hot Club Songs chart in 2001. In addition, Ceevox’s work with George Acosta, Jimmy D. Robinson and Grammy winner Tracy Young, among others, kept her a regular presence on dancefloors and the charts. She wasn’t only the voice of her hits–Ceevox was also a student. She would hang around the studio after recording vocals to watch producers program the other parts of her releases, and she taught herself how to use the ACID digital audio workstation. Her first attempt at production, “Music Is My Life,” was remixed and released by house music legend Junior Vasquez, and she continued to dabble in creating original material and remixes for other artists. Everything crashed to a halt late in 2020, when Ceevox was hospitalized suddenly and subsequently required a lengthy rehabilitation. In need of a therapeutic outlet during her recovery, she returned to programming and further embraced the DJ community that formed online on Twitch during the global pandemic. She connected there with Joe Ventura, who asked Ceevox to contribute vocals to a project for the Big Speaker Music label. When she mentioned that she also produces, he invited her to submit material, and in addition to their collaboration “Coming on Strong,” Ceevox has now released several original tracks on the label. With recent additional releases on Brooklyn South Recordings and Sektor Records, Ceevox is back in full swing and continuing to branch out, and she’s following the advice of one of her own songs: “Let the music take control/And you will find yourself with peace, love and music in your soul.”
