Nina Teixeira

According to brazilian researcher Marcelo Bonavides, Antonina Teixeira was born in Porto Alegre, state of Rio Grande Do Sul, Brazil, in the late 1890's. In the first decade of XX century, she formed the duet Os Geraldos, alongside Geraldo Magalhães, also born in Rio Grande Do Sul. The duet made success singing cançonettas and canções, recording several discs together, but Nina also recorded alone or in group, with Mário Pinheiro and Nozinho. Alongside Júlia Martins, she was one of the first black actresses-singers to be professionalized and made success in Brazil. Os Geraldos traveles in 1909 to Paris, spreading our music and dance, and got some success there. Unfortunately, around the beginning of 1910's we lost information about Nina Teixeira, by the time she stopped the partnership with Geraldo Magalhães. Among her solo recordings is the Tango da Quitandeira, music Chiquinha Gonzaga and lyrics by Vicente Reis and Raul Pederneiras, that was part of the O Esfolado magazine, in 1903. This record would be released between 1904 and 1907.
