Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti, MI Paul's Big Radio is a roots influenced rock and roll band featuring songs by Morris Paul Lippens. Harmony driven vocals, a tasty two guitar punch and *pedals* Morris Paul Lippens - vocals, guitar Josh Killom - guitar, vocals Jerry Hancock - bass Robin M. Grant - vocals Paul's Big Radio is led by singer and songwriter Paul Lippens, who is specialize in a kind of delightfully ragged alt-country-tinged roots rock that seldom drifts into genre clichés, thanks largely to Lippens' heartfelt and personal approach to the stories he tells. This is the kind of thing Gram Parsons had always dreamed of, a seamless mix of country, soul, and rock & roll that he termed "Cosmic American Music," and Paul's Big Radio music is exactly that. The traditional material is done with the ragged passion of the truly smitten and possessed, with lead singer Paul Lippens' vocals careening through mountain standards in a kind of spry, spirited hoedown that would make any mountain string band proud. Yeah, it sounds distantly like bluegrass, but it isn't, drawing its strength from an older and deeper well. Lead guitarist Josh Killom in particular really shines and points to how unpredictable and versatile PBR really are. This isn't a band content to stand in one place very long, and it will be interesting to see where they go next
