Gustav Rösler

German composer and teacher (1819-1883). He arranged for the publisher Breitkopf & Härtel the vocal scores of about 100 Bach cantatas, oratorios, in addition to his piano transcriptions of chamber music, symphonic works as well as vocal scores of operas by various composers (still used today in studying and rehearsals). His Lieder were quite renowned and his opera Hermann und Dorothea (1852) based on Goethe’s epic tale was successfully performed several times, although never published... He also founded a choir which performed operas from Gluck to Wagner.
