South African, Cape Town based electric bass and double bass player. Wesley Rustin was born and raised in Cape Town. He is a self-taught musician and started playing the acoustic guitar at the tender age of six years old. He performed regularly in church and explored alternative musical instruments. At the age of thirteen, he started playing drums and later moved on to play the bass guitar and made it his first instrument. In 1992, he studied jazz at Mapp (Music Action for People’s Progress) this has been his formal introduction to the art of jazz music and has built good working relationships and collaborated with his fellow musicians at Mapp. After he studied music, He mainly performed twice a week and mainly weekends due to his day in marketing. During February in 2001, Wesley Rustin seized the opportunity to perform professional and ever since managed to remain one of the most successful bass players in Cape Town. He studied the contra bass in 2003 with the legendary Zoltan Kovat, who has been the principal contra bassist in the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra. Wesley Rustin is currently teaching at a few schools in Cape Town. In 2004, he studied the contra bass with Zoltan Kovat and is currently teaching music at two schools in Cape Town.
