Ragtime pianist and composer (born May 30, 1883 in Manhattan, New York, NY – died December 3, 1915 in Manhattan, New York, NY). Best known for "Waiting For The Robert E. Lee" (with lyrics by L. Wolfe Gilbert, 1912) and "Ragtime Cowboy Joe" (lyrics by Maurice Abrahams, 1912). Muir's first published composition was "Play That Barber-Shop Chord" (1910), which became part of Bert Williams' routine. Other popular songs he wrote include "When Ragtime Rosie Ragged the Rosary," "Hitchy Koo," "Mammy Jinny's Jubilee," "Mootching Along At The Cotton Ball' (1914), and "Take Me To That Swanee Shore."
