P.I.D. (aka Preachers in Disguise aka Preachas) is a Christian hip hop band, considered one of the founding father of the holy hip hop scene in the United States. The name Preachers in Disguise was born from the concept of using rap music as a communication device to share the gospel as "Holy Ghost Preachers in rapping disguise" (a verse from song "Don't Bow" on their 1988 debut album “Here We Are”). The current members of the group are Fred Lynch from Dallas, TX founding member of the group; Jonathan Johnson aka King Solomon Jay from Pittsburgh, PA and Richard Martin aka Ace One The MC from the Bronx, NY. Ordained ministers as well as accomplished performers all three members of this group take the creative expression of the gospel most seriously as a vetted lifestyle being elder-statesmen of hip hop culture. Past members of the crew consisted of Barry Hogan aka Barry G., Carlos Brown aka DJ Selecta, John Neal, and Kevin Lynch aka K-Mack The Knife. 1991’s The Chosen Ones was Hogan’s last record with P.I.D. and also saw the introduction of Fred Lynch's brother K-Mack The Knife to the group. King Solomon J. was a group member on Born With The Gift: John 3:16 Factor. P.I.D. changed their name into Preachas after four albums and released their last record Violent Playgrounds in 1993. The final line up of their last album was Fred Lynch, Ace One The MC, and K-Mack the Knife. This album was the fruit of their labor of love after they finally got full control of the production process under MYX Records and the album is considered one of the best CHH albums of the time. Just after the release of Violent Playgrounds Fred's brother K-Mack became a member of the Nation of Islam. Since Fred could only rap about his Christian faith this was the end of PID/Preachas. The brothers are still close and Fred Lynch and Ace One The MC (both ordained ministers) are still active in ministry and Hip Hop Culture. Upon the 50th Year Anniversary of Hip Hop P.I.D. was pursued to co-produce a documentary titled, "Mic Drop: The History of the Culture of Christian Hip Hop Culture". Additionally, P.I.D. was pursued and signed a record deal with Holy Culture Records in October of 2023. Their reunion album featuring Fred Lynch, Ace One The MC, and King Solomon Jay is titled: The Crucible scheduled to release in June of 2024.
