Hungarian/Swedish cellist, born April 18, 1952 in Budapest, Hungary. He moved to Sweden in 1962, and studied at Royal Music Academy in Stockholm. Got his soloist diploma in 1971. Employed by The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra since 1973. Lavotha is educated at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and at the Royal Academy of Music where his teacher was Gunnar Norrby. He has since studied for Gregor Pyatigorsky and Pierre Fournier. From 1973 to 2010, Lavotha was a solo cellist in the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. He is a professor at the Royal Academy of Music and since 2004 a member of the Royal Academy of Music. Since 2015, he is a cellist in Norrbotten NEO and artistic advisor to the Norrbotten Chamber Orchestra.
