Xavier Dphrepaulezz was raised in Oakland as a strict Sunni Muslim. His childhood centered around prayer and listening to Arthur Fiedler. Growing up around Oakland's street culture and being exposed to R&B music, he preferred the music of Sly and the Family Stone and James Brown. At age 25, he produced and played all the instruments on his 1995 debut album, The X Factor. In recent years he has been performing and recording as Fantastic Negrito.
