From wikipedia: William Gurney Rothery, M.V.O. (London, October 26, 1858 - 1930) was an English musicologist. He studied singing in London and Leipzig. For many years he was a music assistant at the Department of Public Instruction and Music and Singing Examiner at the Froebel National Union. Professor of Classical and Choir singing at City of London College, Lady Holles School and other centres (1890-1910). From 1910, he was the Secretary of the Royal Choral Society. In addition to a large number of articles and monographs on song and music, he translated more than 500 songs, choirs, cantatas into English. He composed the drama "A Lucky Star" (1907). He was made Member of the Royal Victorian Order, 4th class (MVO) in the 1921 New Year's Honours list.
