He began his artistic career in 1973, when at the age of eleven he joined the band at the boarding school where he studied. In 1977, alongside other students and school staff, he formed the school's dance ensemble. He converted to the gospel in 1981. He played in the group Sonata, from Igreja Batista de Padre Miguel (IBPM), until, in 1982, alongside Alex Gonzaga, he created the group Novo Som, one of the most popular in evangelical music, with which he released 11 albums. The first album, Um Novo Som para Cristo, was released in 1988 by the record label Favoritos Evangélicos. From 1990 to 1999, with the group Novo Som, he recorded eight albums on the NS Records label, including the evangelical hits Pra Você, Meu Universo and Não é o Fim. In 2000, Novo Som was hired by the record label MK Music, through which he released two more unreleased works, Heroi dos Heroes and Um Dia a Mais, the latter being Lenilton's last album as a member of the band Novo Som, released in 2002. In 2004, Lenilton formed the band Rota 33, with Adriano (vocals), Jorjão Barreto (keyboards and vocals), Valmir Aroeira (guitar and vocals), Moisés Costa (guitar and vocals), Dilson Villa Nova (Drums and vocals). Together with Rota 33, he released the group's first CD in 2006, titled Inabalável, standing out with the hit "Pra Voltare", written by him in partnership with singer Val Martins. The song was included in the Cravo Albin Dictionary of Brazilian Popular Music as a recognized Brazilian work. During 2009, after 6 years of leaving Novo Som, Lenilton released a new romantic composition for the band, which was part of the repertoire on the CD Estação de Luz. In 2011, Lenilton recorded the project Para Semper: Lenilton & Amigos with his old compositions from the Novo Som era in new versions performed by Leonardo Gonçalves, Álvaro Tito, Sérgio Lopes, Michael Sullivan, Marquinhos Gomes, Rosanah Fienngo, Mattos Nascimento, Raquel Mello and Route 33. In 2013, with the release of the compilation album Novo Som para Semper, in 3 (three) volumes by the Mess Entretenimento record label, Lenilton was invited to make a special appearance in the recording of the DVD 25 Anos - Writing Stories in celebration of the band's 25 years of career. . In 2014, Lenilton released a new composition in partnership with Val Martins called Espelho for this project with Novo Som. The song was released as a single on digital platforms and also featured a lyric video in partnership with Mess Entretenimento. In August 2015, Lenilton released an official note on his personal Facebook page with the aim of clarifying the controversies that still surround his departure from the band. In the note, the musician spoke about the friction he suffered from some members of the group and also about his decision to terminate any and all musical partnerships between him and Novo Som, including prohibiting the band from performing their compositions from that date onwards. . In 2016, Lenilton, Marcos Kinder, Val Martins and Sérgio Knust announced the formation of the band KSLV, the first supergroup to emerge in the evangelical environment, that is, a band formed by famous musicians who have worked on other projects. In October of the same year, they released the album Conceito containing ten tracks, signed by the musicians. The project was interrupted in 2018 due to the death of Sérgio Knust in an accident. In 2019, the Lenilton, Natinho & Cia project was born, together with Leynho and Dilson Villanova on the mission to rescue Christian music from the 80s/90s in a contemporary way, promoting identity without losing the focus of evangelism through music. This year they released the remake of the song Deixa Brilhar a Luz and the new songs Dá pra Voltar a Sorrir and O Som do Coração. In 2020, they released the remake of In Name of Peace and the new film O Caminho do Sol (Ele Vive). Through his various compositions and musical partnerships, Lenilton had his name included in the Cravo Albin Dictionary of Brazilian Popular Music, a work that brings together renowned authors, performers, groups and artists of Brazilian popular music.
