Ivan Docenko is one of the best-known pianists and versatile musicians in Western New York. He is currently staff accompanist for Buffalo State College’s Music Department. Docenko is also a keyboardist for the Camerata di Sant’Antonio, the Johann Strauss Orchestra of Buffalo,Buffalo Tango Orkestra and serves as organist/pianist for St. Luke’s Anglican Church in East Aurora. He holds a B.F.A. in piano performance from the University of Buffalo, where he studied with Stephen Manes and Frina Arschanska Boldt. Last fall, Mr. Docenko presented a solo recital,”Alkan’s Feast “ at Ciminelli Hall on the Buffalo State College Campus. Ivan has also recently performed concertos by Chopin and Beethoven with local orchestras : ACE Chamber Orchestra and Cheektowaga Community Symphony Orchestra. Docenko is active in international music such as Argentine Tango and Ukrainian and Polish folk tunes. He frequently performs at the annual Ukrainian-American Day at DNIPRO and also Dyngus Day festivities. (on YouTube and Facebook). As a freelance pianist, Docenko performs throughout the area with his violinist brother Gregory Docenko. Most notably, they provided film scores for POLONIA: Western New York’s Polish-American Legacy, and Kryszak’s “Broken Blossoms” for Turner Classic Movies.
