Dominik "Dom" Zuchowicz (26 Mar 1949—8 Feb 2011) was a prominent Canadian luthier from Winnipeg who specialized in viola da gambas, violones, period guitars, modern bowed instruments, and occasionally historical keyboards. In 1975, Zuchowicz established his workshop at the Ottawa Folklore Centre, where he worked for the rest of his life. He received two grants from The Canada Council for the Arts in 1981 and spent a few years researching historical instrument collections in the USA, Canada, and Europe. From 1981 till 1983, Dom Zuchowicz served as a restoration consultant at Boston Symphony Orchestra's Casedessus Collection and 'Period Music Division' of New England Conservatory Of Music. Throughout his career, Zuchowicz built over 350 instruments. Some of the notable players include members of Apollo's Fire Baroque Orchestra, Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra, Colonial Williamsburg, Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, Portland Baroque Orchestra, Studio De Musique Ancienne De Montréal, and Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra; some are in collections of Canadian Museum Of Civilization, Juilliard School, McGill University, Université de Montréal, University Of Western Ontario, and Harvard University.
