Ieuan Glan Geirionydd (20 April 1795, Trefriw - 21 January 1855, Rhyl) was a poet, hymn writer and priest. Born as Evan Evans. The literary critic Saunders Lewis regarded him as one of the greatest poets of the classical Welsh tradition. Stoicism is a prominent element in his poems. His parents were Methodists, but Ieuan was ordained an Anglican priest when he was older. He served as curate in the parishes of the Diocese of Chester before retiring in 1852 and returning to live in Trefriw where he remained for the rest of his life. He wrote a number of hymns, including 'Ar lan Jordanen deep', which are considered by some critics to be among the best in the Welsh language.
