Gregorio Cortés, also known as Ah Pax Chul, was a Mexican researcher, performer and maker of Pre-Columbian music instruments, specially flutes. Son of the craftsman Mario Cortés Bacilio, he was very influenced by the musician Jorge Dajer, disciple of the Mexican composer Carlos Chávez. Cortés soon developed great skills as a potter, making instruments of clay which served as an object of study of music anthropology. His instruments has been exposed in several museums and collections, and have been performed in recordings by Jorge Reyes, Antonio Zepeda, Los Folkloristas, Luiz Marquez, Mezme, Gonzalo Ceja Gascon, Huazzteco, Grupo Zazhil, Humberto Alvarez, together with french flute player Pierre Hamon or the Spanish musicians José Manuel Pizarro Carmona and Pablo Canalís.
