Sharon Chohi Kim is a voice artist, educator, composer and avid collaborator based in Los Angeles. She is a dedicated explorer of the sonic possibilities of the human voice and the countless ways of applying them within such contexts as opera, contemporary, experimental, electronic, and musical theatre. She was recently seen at Walt Disney Concert Hall as Hungry Ghost in Meredith Monk’s opera ATLAS with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. She is a Company Member of the groundbreaking opera company The Industry, for which she played Lucha in Hopscotch, and will play Wiindigo in the upcoming Sweet Land. She was a vocalist in the West Coast Premiere of Sila: Breath of the World by John Luther Adams for the Ojai Music Festival. As well as performing, Sharon co-composed two immersive electroacoustic operas. Her opera Unseal Unseam was described as “hair-raising” and “paralyzingly beautiful” (New Classic LA; 2017). Sharon has performed with The Los Angeles Opera Company (Connects and Chorus), The Broad, REDCAT, MOCA, Human Resources, The Machine Project, among others in Los Angeles; Spectrum, New York; El Paso Opera Company and Chamizal National Memorial, Texas; and Jang Chun Art Hall and Yeoungdeungpogu Theatre in Seoul, South Korea. She’s toured Canada and the United Kingdom singing experimental vocal music. She received an MFA at California Institute of the Arts. Sharon is currently on voice faculty at American Musical and Dramatic Academy in Hollywood, California.
