Sebastian Klotz

Sebastian Klotz, or "Sebastien Kloz" (18 January 1696, Mittenwald, Bavaria — 20 January 1775, Ibid.) was a notable German luthier and maker of violins and violas, the son of the family's patriarch Matthias Klotz (1656—1743). His two brothers, Johann Carl Klotz (1709—1790) and Georg Karl Klotz (1723—1797), also worked as luthiers. Sebastian had eleven children, and three of his sons became renowned violin makers: Georg II Karl Klotz (1723—1797), Aegidius Sebastian Klotz (1733—1805), and Joseph Thomas Klotz (1743—post-1811).
