French-born American cellist (b. December 30, 1875 Rouen, France - d. February 22, 1941 in Rochester, Monroe County, New York, USA) The last student of Jules Delsart, Kéfer won the first price at the 1901 Concours. In October 1901, he emigrated to the United States, where became the principal cellist of the New York Symphony. In 1913, he played cello with the Tollefsen Trio. In 1914, Kéfer formed the Trio de Lutèce with harpist Carlos Salzedo and flautist Georges Barrère. He was also a member of The Kilbourn Quartet with Gustav Tinlot (first violin), Gerald Kunz (second violin), and Samuel Belov (viola). Father of the actress Rose Hobart.
