Stephen James (12)

Painter and musician, he was born in New York in 1948 and has studied at Milton College in Wisconsin, Berklee School of Music in Boston and London School of Tutors. Credited for various roles (producer, arranger, hosted by, assistant, photographer, ...) on releases linked to Duke Ellington. He is a son of Ruth Ellington, only sister of Duke Ellington. He was close to Elvin Jones in his teens and wrote liner notes of Illumination! (recorded 1963, issued 1964). That could make him the youngest ever liner notes author. He also played electric piano on Midnight Walk and composed one of the songs.
