Clifford Jones (3)

Clifford Jones started his musical career in 1949 when he learned to play trombone in the Ystalyfera Town band—a small village band in South Wales. He went on to win many solo competitions and in 1957 he was awarded the title of Best Young Instrumentalist in Great Britain in a competition organised by the Daily Mirror. After studying at Cardiff College of Music he joined The Band Of The Irish Guards and remained with them until January 1964 when he joined the trombone section of the BBC Concert Orchestra. In addition to this, in 1974, he took up the appointment of Director of Music with the Hemel Hempstead Band and since then the band has broadcast in several popular radio programmes.
