Singer/composer/bandleader Raymond George Andrade was born in Honolulu. In 1935, he joined Harry Owens orchestra at the Royal as featured singer. A year later, he became one of the first Hawaii Calls vocalists. He performed on radio station KGU and staged a huge Hawaiian extravaganza at the Las Vegas Hotel Last Frontier. Back in Honolulu, he played the Niumalu Hotel, La Hula Rhumba and The Grove nightspots, which he also managed. He composed 'When Lulu Does the Hula,' Magic at Waikiki,' 'A Pale Hawaiian Moon' and 'My Own Hawaii.' He played the music in the film Coconut Grove. Not only did he record for RCA Victor, he handled their distribution and merchandising in Hawaii.
