Frederick Field Bullard (21 September 1864, Boston, Massachusetts — 24 June 1904, Boston) was an American composer, songwriter, and educator. Before pursuing a musical career, Bullard studied chemistry at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he actively participated in the MIT Glee Club as both a vocalist and accompanist on piano and other instruments, like flute and double bass. After graduating in 1887, Frederick abandoned science in favor of his passion for music and went to Germany to study under composer Josef Rheinberger in Munich. In 1892, Frederick Bullard returned to the United States, settling in his hometown, Boston. He taught for many years, with Edward Burlingame Hill among his favorite disciples. Bullard wrote several Easter and Christmas cantatas, contributed eight arrangements to the 1904 "Pilgrim Hymnal," and authored numerous popular songs for college glee clubs, most notably A Stein Song co-written with Richard Hovey (2), as well as Barney McGee and A June Lullaby.
