Lucien Quet was born in Casablanca, Morocco in 1887, and enlisted in the French Army in 1906. It was over 30 years later, in 1935, that he became Music Director of the 134th Infantry Regiment. He died in 1973. Quet had a seemingly small output of compositions. Two works which he wrote are [I]Sidi-Bel-Abbes (for wind orchestra, percussion and brass fanfare) and a 1936 wind orchestra arrangement of the Messager Solo de concours (with clarinet soloist). Another work, the Petite Pièce for clarinet & piano, had a Paris copyright registration of July 1943, but was written several years prior. This work was originally published by Andrieu Frères of Paris (which had an affiliation with Martin Frères), which ceased business operations in the 1970s. It was catalog number A.F. 5069. The piece was purchased by Editions Billaudot, retaining the catalog number of A.F. 5069. Soon after publication, the work was again published by Andrieu Freres with the title Poetic Sketch, with a copyright of 1938. Since it was his Messager arrangement which referenced his appointment as Music Director and the Petite Pièce did not, it is possible that it was completed before 1935.
