Tony Mayer was born November 29, 1936 in Zemun in modern-day Serbia. He immigrated to the United States with his family in 1952 and settled in St. Louis MO. In January 1960 he married Mary Jane Mayer, and shortly thereafter started the Ambassador Club and Deutchlandsender organizations to provide German-related cultural activities to the German Americans in the area. In addition to hosting a radio program on WCBW - FM, he also opened the Europa Center on Gravois Avenue near Bevo Mill (Gravois and Morganford Rd) selling imported goods from Germany and Europe. He also sponsored charter flights to Germany and other European destinations, and hosted several German dances at the Electrical Workers Hall (5850 Elizabeth Ave, St. Louis, MO 63110). The Golden 3 were featured at the dances on several occasions, leading to him appearing on The Golden 3 record. Tony Mayer died on December 19, 2013 at Lake General Hospital in Osage Beach MO. He is survived by his wife and children (Cyndy Rasch and Anton Mayer) and five grand children.
