“Nick” Rouse Inducted November 19, 1995 (LMEA Hall of Fame) Began his career as a music educator at Redemptorist High School in Baton Rouge, while working on his bachelor of music education degree at Louisiana State University. For thirty-plus years, he taught music at all levels in and around the Baton Rouge area. He taught instrumental music, vocal music, music theory, music appreciation, jazz ensemble, and - in 1963-64 - a general business course at Redemptorist High School. He was a member of the faculty of such schools as Redemptorist High School, Denham Springs High School, and Westdale Middle School. Rouse served Louisiana State University on two separate occasions, frst as graduate assistant to the director of bands, where he had the responsibilities as feld charter for the Tiger Marching Band, assistant conductor of the symphonic band and director of the ROTC and basketball bands. He returned to LSU in 1976, to serve four years as Director of Bands and Assistant Professor of Music. In addition to conducting the six ensembles in the band department, he taught courses in graduate conducting and marching band techniques. Rouse served the Louisiana Music Educators Association as District 4 Director on two separate occasions, and adjudicated at many district festivals for LMEA Districts 1, 2, 4, 6, 7 and 8, as well as for festivals in Alabama and Texas. Nick Rouse was a member of the College Band Directors National Association , the American School Band Directors Association, the Louisiana Bandmasters Association and Phi Beta Mu, as well as LMEA and MENC. For eleven years, he was conductor of the River City Symphonic Band in Baton Rouge. Nick Rouse died on Christmas Day in 1993.
