Charles Merenstein was a songwriter, band manager and record label boss. Vice President of Apollo Records (2) and owner of Doe Records, Charles Merenstein is nowadays best remembered for having penned, along with Otis Blackwell and Jimmy Jones, "Handy Man", a hit for Jones in 1959 and later covered by Del Shannon and James Taylor. Son-in-law of Bessie (Merenstein) Berman, co-founder of Apollo Records (2) and newphew of record producer Lewis Merenstein.
