Darrell Commander

Austin, Texas keyboardist and pianist. Originally from Beaumont, Texas, Commander played professionally in the Houston big band, swing, and R&B scene throughout the late 90’s before moving to Austin. From 2002 to 2006, he was the keyboardist for jazz fusion quintet The Harmony Theory, and from 2007 to 2008, he played keys for Akina Adderley & The Vintage Playboys. Since then, Commander has performed both as a singer/songwriter and as a sideman for a variety of other artists, including Peter Rowan’s band Twang An’ Groove from 2012 to 2013, Flounders Without Eyes from 2010 to 2013. From 2013 to 2015, he was the touring keyboardist for Ulrich Ellison And Tribe. He performed with the D. R. Commander Trio (DRC3) from 2020 to 2023.
