Brian Miller (known also under the moniker PHREK) has been involved in urban electronic music for the better part of 3 decades. Originally born in Toledo, Ohio – this Michigan native has absorbed an eclectic array of music, gravitating toward the multicultural urban sounds of the area, sounds that - at the time – were considered abrasive and edgy. From 1985 through 1988 the concentration was Hip Hop, the emerging pulse of the House movement in Chicago, and the mechanized future groove of Detroit. As a local community radio DJ (WEHB & WBYW Grand Rapids, Michigan), he vented his love for the genres in the music he played. In 1989, he began recording in both professional, and home studio environments. Inspired by the mid-90s resurgence of techno – he reestablished his commitment to the evolutionary sound, refocused and began recording. In early 2005 he founded 6ONE6 as platform for the catalog, release, and promotion of soulful urban electronic music. His first CD Release DPM (released under the pseudonym Detroit People Mover) received nomination at the 2006 Detroit Music Awards, and in 2007 he won the award for Outstanding Electronic/Dance Recording for the single Model One. Today he continues to honor his commitment to the label, and his personal development in urban electronic soul.
