Martin Schalling the Young (born 21 April 1532, in Strassburg, Pomerania – died 29 December 1608, in Nuremberg) was a Protestant theologian, reformer and hymnwriter. His father, Martin Schalling the Elder, was a Protestant theologian and reformer (died 27 February 1552 in Strassburg, Pomerania). His most famous hymn is "Herzlich lieb hab ich dich, o Herr" (What hearty love I have for you, oh Lord, EG 397), which has been set by several composers, including Heinrich Schütz (in his "Geistliche Chormusik"), Dieterich Buxtehude (cantata, BuxWV 41) and Johann Sebastian Bach (at the close of the St John Passion among others).
