Hazel Scott (2)

English singer. Born in the 1940s near London. She moved to Zimbabwe as a child where she grew up. She was doing the small nightclub circuit when she met a trio of Brazilian musicians. They immediately began playing together, introducing themselves as Hazel Scott & the 3 Brazilians. Izio Gross, the group's pianist, would eventually marry Hazel. When Rosinha de Valença joined the group, they became the Ipanema 5. She toured with the group for six months before moving on. The group then became Hazel Scott And The Braza Brasil. She moved to Brazil in 1971 and had a contract at the Hilton Hotel in São Paulo and appeared on Brazilian TV. In 1973, she moved back to South Africa and recorded Braza Brasil. She came back to England in 1976, retiring from music. She started working on the Brazilian naval commission because she spoke the Portuguese language thanks to her singing.
