Ioannes Couchet

Joannes Couchet (2 Feb 1615—30 Mar 1655), or Jan Couchet, was a Flemish maker of harpsichords and virginals from a renowned Couchet family in Antwerp, grandson of Hans Ruckers (154?—1598). In 1626, Jan Couchet began apprenticing with his uncle Joannes Ruckers (1578—1642). He has worked independently since 1642, after his teacher's death. There are five instruments in-existence attributed to Joannes Couchet, all dated around 1650. Three out of Couchet's seven children became harpsichord-makers, including Joseph Joannes Couchet.
