US songwriter, born on July 16th, 1890 in Brooklyn, New York and died on June 19th, 1978 at Glen Cove, Long Island (age: 87). She is an inductee of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, where she is credited as being the first woman composer to publish a hit song. She studied piano in Switzerland and then at the New York School of Music. In 1925, she co-wrote the music to the hit song "Don’t Wake Me Up, Let Me Dream", with lyrics provided by Wolfe Gilbert. She also wrote the hit songs "Ramona", "In a Little Spanish Town", "It Happened in Monterey" and "I Understand". She was particularly noted for her Latin-tinged songs. Wayne collaborated with several lyricists including L. Wolfe Gilbert, Kim Gannon, Billy Rose, Mitchell Parish, Al Lewis, Joe Young (3) and Sam Lewis.
