American songwriter, born on 19 November 1897 in Podhajce, Galicia, Austria-Hungary [now Pidhaitsi, Ukraine]⎯ died on 2 January 1981 in Yonkers, Westchester, New York, USA. Green emigrated with his family to New York in 1907. He wrote the lyrics to "Sentimental Journey" (1944, music by Les Brown and Ben Homer) and other hits, including "Alabamy Bound" (1924, with Buddy De Sylva, music by Ray Henderson) and "Once In A While" (1937, music by Michael Edwards (3)). He collaborated on both the words and music of "That's My Weakness Now" (1928, with Sam H. Stept) and "Flat Foot Floogee" (1938, with Slim Gaillard and Slam Stewart). In 1975, he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
