(1932 - 2005) Prolific American born actor familiar to many as Commander Ed Straker in the UK TV series, UFO which ran in the early 1970s. Born as George Victor Bishop in 1932. His name change to Edward came about when when he became a professional actor due to there already being an actor with the name George Bishop. He was based in Peekskill, New York. From 1952 to 1954, he Served in the US Army and worked as a disc jockey on Armed Forces Radio at St Johns' Newfoundland. Studying for career in Business Administration at Boston University, he decided he didn't like Business Administration and enrolled at the university's Theater Division. In 1960, he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree.He also won a scholarship to study drama at London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art in 1960. His professional acting career began in July 1961. His early roles include playing a reporter in the TV series, Drama 61-67 and an ambulance attendant in the 1962 film, Lolita. One of his last roles was in an episode of Waking the Dead which aired in 2002. Married at least three times he was the father of four children. He was also a keen anti-war activist who was outspoken about the Iraq war.
