Born: April 15, 1909 - Died: December 5, 1975 Inducted into the Country Music DJ Hall of Fame (1995). A member of the KMBC Brush Creek Follies, KOMA Bluff Creek Round Up, Renfro Valley Barn Dance, WHO Iowa Barn Dance Frolic, WLS National Barn Dance and the WSM Grand Ole Opry. Was a multitalented entertainer known as "radio's original rube." A Kansas native, got his start in 1924 while still in high school, performing on KFBI in Milford, Kansas, as part of the McOwen Hillbillies. Became a regular on the National Barn Dance on WLS, Chicago. In Kansas City, a 15-year association began with KMBC and the "Brush Creek Follies." Along with announcing, telling jokes, and playing straight man to the show's comics, he was also a singer, guitarist, and harmonica player.
