American songwriter, author, and librettist. Born September 16, 1889 in Dubuque, Iowa. Died December 5, 1961 (72 years of age). Best known for song Hold Me, which he co-wrote with Ira Schuster and Little Jack Little. He also had successes with the songs "It's the Girl" (recorded by The Boswell Sisters), "The Night When Love Was Born" (recorded by Ruth Etting), and "At the Baby Parade" (recorded by Enric Madriguera and His Orchestra). He wrote songs for musical shows in London, for Broadway shows, and motion picture scores including the 1944 black-and-white ice-skating musical Lady Let’s Dance, which has been preserved by the Library of Congress. He also played semi-professional football.
